Trauma - informed Integrative Counsellor offering online & face to face sessions in Milton Keynes
I believe that counselling is a safe space that offers an opportunity for you to be unapologetically you. To be accepted, heard and supported to explore the things that brought you into therapy. This could be big life events or a general feeling of being discontented with how things are in the moment and wanting to explore that further.
I aim to offer a safe and trusting space where you can feel secure enough to express yourself without judgement. To facilitate personal growth and self-awareness, promote self-acceptance and empower decision-making, supporting you to find your own solutions.
Every person that accesses counselling has different needs and processes things in different ways. I do not believe that one type of counselling fits everyone or every situation. Being able to offer a broader spectrum of modalities, knowledge and skills allows for a more flexible way of working.
I am an integrative counsellor with a Person-Centred core modality meaning the therapeutic relationship is key to our work together and I work alongside you through therapy. Other modalities and ways of working also form part of the way I work:
I have worked in a local counselling agency and an online counselling agency specialising in survivors of abuse. I have worked with clients with a range of issues including:
I began my career after studying Psychology, working within forensic psychiatric services as a support worker. In this setting I worked with many clients who had been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
I completed a Post Graduate study in Forensic Psychology and moved into working within Substance Use services as a Drug & Alcohol practitioner where I have worked for the past 14 years. I also deliver Trauma-informed staff training within the NHS.
All of my training and work experiences have led me towards training as a Counsellor and having my own private practice where I offer online and in-person sessions to adults.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP), hold public liability insurance and I am registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). I work within an ethical framework and follow all GDPR requirements to keep client data safe.
Qualifications
I am also a Sand Story Therapist and I am able to offer this to clients when it is felt like an appropriate way of working together. This type of therapy is suitable for all ages and can be especially beneficial in clients who have experienced trauma and find it hard to express how they feel in a traditional counselling setting.
Sand Story Therapy offers a way of working with all levels of consciousness to access a greater depth of exploration and understanding. It is suitable for all ages and is a powerful way for you to visibly show your story rather than just using words. It is a gentle and safe way of working on difficult issues including trauma and addiction and allows us to look at each 'chapter', one step at a time, at your own pace.
I am a Trauma-Informed trainer within my work in the NHS and will be completing further Trauma training later this year. Trauma can be linked to why someone might begin counselling and I find it important to work with compassion, kindness and developing safety in a way that can be felt and experienced. It is important to me that you always have autonomy to make free choice within our work together.
I always have creative tools accessible in sessions such as:
All of which can be used in sessions if/when you would like to.
I am committed to continuing professional personal development. My most recent CPD includes:
I work from two locations, both offering private and confidential spaces in Newport Pagnell and West Bletchley. In-person appointment locations will be discussed on initial contact. I also offer remote sessions via Google Meet and work with clients across the UK.

A free initial 30 minute phone/video call is offered to discuss whether we feel able to work with one another. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
If you feel you would like to proceed, an appointment can be booked for an assessment.
You can also call me on 07495921606. If I am unable to answer, feel free to send me a text or Whats App message and I will contact you back as soon as I am able.
All enquires are usually answered within 48 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
What will happen in the first appointment?
During our first appointment, we will spend time talking about what has led you to seek counselling and what you would like to get out of our work together. It is ok if there aren't clear answers to these questions at this stage, it just gives us a starting point to work from. I will also explain how I work, what you can expect from sessions and answer any questions you may have. Each session will last 50 minutes and can be in-person or online. This appointment also offers the opportunity for you to see how you feel and whether you feel that I am the right fit for you. There is no expectation for you to disclose everything in the first session, My aim is to provide a safe and supportive space for you to feel able to explore what you need to at your own pace.
What if I change my mind once I start working with you?
There is no expectation for you to continue working with me following the first session. If at the end of this session you choose not to continue for any reason, that is absolutely fine. I am also happy to signpost you towards other services or counsellors that might be a better fit for you if this would be helpful. Similarly, if we do start working together and you decide at some stage that you would like to pause or stop therapy, this decision will be respected and you will have full autonomy to make that decision. The therapy space is yours to use for as long as you feel it helpful.
There seems to be lots of different types of counselling. What do you offer, and what does that actually mean?
There are a lot of different ways of working in the counselling world, and counsellors are trained in different approaches depending on their passions and interests. When looking for a counsellor this can become overwhelming when trying to find what approach might meet your needs.
I am trained in several different approaches which I incorporate into the way I work with clients. I will break these down to help explain what each approach looks like although as I am trained as an integrative counsellor, I will incorporate all approaches in the way I work.
Person-Centred Therapy
This is at the core of how I work. I believe the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is extremely important and can create a space for positive change when there is trust and safety within the relationship. I also believe that you are the expert of your life and that I am there to support your own understanding and growth.
Transactional Analysis (TA)
This is a way of understanding relationships and dynamics that appear between people and within ourselves. It can help increase understanding of our feelings when interacting with others and patterns of behaviour that often stem from childhood.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
This focuses on our thoughts, feelings and behaviours offering more practical approaches to challenge negative thoughts and reframe ways of thinking.
Sand Story Therapy®
Based in Jungian psychology, Sand Story Therapy offers a way of working at a deeper level of the unconscious. It is a gentle and contained way to explore feelings that might be otherwise difficult to access. It is good if words are hard to find and is also a creative way of working supporting those who tend to stay in their heads, to access and feel what is in their hearts.
Whether you need a safe space to be heard, practical tools to manage symptoms, insight into patterns, or a creative way to process what’s been held inside, we can work together to find a way forward that is helpful to you.
How many sessions will I need?
There are no set amount of sessions recommended as everyone is different. The number of sessions depends on what you are hoping to achieve in therapy, what you want to explore/process and how you like to work. Sometimes, a few sessions can be enough to explore a specific issue or come to a decision. Other times, longer-term therapy is helpful to have the time and space to explore deeper patterns of behaviour, past experiences or numerous issues presenting at the same time.
I offer both short-term therapy and open-ended therapy, where we work together for as long as it feels helpful. In our first session, we’ll talk about what you are hoping to get from counselling, and we can decide together what kind of pace and timeframe feels right for you as well as reviewing this regularly.
How confidential are the sessions, and when would you need to breach that?
Confidentiality is a core part of counselling and is very important in developing a trusting relationship and safe environment to be able to do meaningful work in therapy. Everything you share in our sessions is treated with respect and kept private. I may discuss our work together with my clinical supervisor who is bound under the same confidentiality agreement as me and any information from our sessions would be anonymised so they would not know who it was relating to. This is so I can ensure I am doing the best by you as my client and continuing to work ethically and safely.
There are a few legal and ethical exceptions where I may need to break confidentiality. These include situations where:
Where possible, I will always try to discuss this with you first and support you through any steps that may need to be taken. My goal is to maintain a safe, trusting environment while also working within professional and legal guidelines.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
There are lots of different reasons why someone might seek counselling. Some of these reasons might include:
You don't have to have a specific diagnosis or mental health condition to access counselling. I believe that counselling can be beneficial for anyone as it offers an opportunity for self-exploration, reflection and growth. It not only supports us when we are struggling but can also help us maintain our strength and resilience when we are feeling more positive.
